  • BEERS

Year-Round & Seasonal Beers (Draft and Bottled)

    GAMBLER'S GOLD

    Year-Round

    TASTING NOTES:

Lightly roasted maltiness, a prominent aromatic nose, tropical fruit accents, and a clear, golden complexion make this a refreshingly balanced, dry ale handcrafted with European malt and some of our favorite American and Australian hop varieties. Judiciously dry hopped, this is an ideal session ale for any beer lover.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:
Wonderful with the subtle flavors of local Cantonese dishes, grilled foods and pasta.

    AWARDS:
    • Bronze, 2016 Asian Beer Cup (Japan) - Light Ale, Bottled
    • Gold, 2016 Asian Beer Medals (Singapore) - Golden Ale
    • Champion, 2015 Hong Kong International Beer Awards (HKSAR) - Golden / Blonde Ale

    WHITE PEARL

    Seasonal (May - October)

    TASTING NOTES:

Our interpretation of a Belgian white ale has a decidedly "Pearl River Delta" character. The generous amount of wheat malt, a bevy of local ingredients (including Mandarin orange peel, rose buds and honey) plus our special yeast give this pale straw-colored, unfiltered beer a refreshingly complex tart and citrusy flavor with a hint of honey and infused aromatics.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:
Classic with steamed mussels but also great with light seafood dishes, salads, sushi, grilled chicken, herbed cheeses and many citrusy desserts.

    HONG KONG BEER

    Year-Round

    TASTING NOTES:

Copperish hue, with balanced light caramel malt profile and prominent citrus hop aroma and character, this is a beer to be enjoyed on a fine summer’s day, which is practically any day in Hong Kong. Its smooth, refreshing finish will have you reaching for another one or two.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:

A beer for pizza, burgers or even a bag of chips or crisps while watching a game or match or venturing out on a junk with friends.

    AWARDS:

    • Gold, 2016 Hong Kong & Macau Beer Cup (HKSAR)
    • Silver, 2016 Asian Beer Medals (Singapore) - Pale Ale
    • Champion, 2015 Hong Kong International Beer Awards (HKSAR) - Amber/Dark Lager

    DRAGON'S BACK

    Year-Round

    TASTING NOTES:

Medium-bodied style made famous in England for its interplay between the malt character and apparent esters typical of great ales. The judicious addition of American hops during the boil and when dry hopping serves to kick the refreshment and aroma levels up a few notches.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:
Try it with the flavorful tastes of Vietnamese, Mexican, and Thai cuisines or hearty seafood dishes.

    BIG WAVE BAY

    Year-Round

    TASTING NOTES:

Aggressively dry-hopped, West Coast-style India Pale Ale with a freshness and balance that can only be found in a locally brewed beer. Its robust flavors sit on a rich base of malt, complemented by bracing bitterness, and the fragrant citrus, tropical fruit and pine aromas of American and Australian hops.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:
Made for big, bold dishes with lots Szechuan peppers and the spice and heat of fiery curries, it also matches well with a sharp cheddar.

    AWARDS:
    • Bronze, 2016 World Beer Cup (USA) - English-style Indian Pale Ale

    BETSY

    Year-Round

    TASTING NOTES:

A unique wheat beer made with Pilsner yeast was designed in conjunction with Cathay Pacific Airways, https://goo.gl/fiqMTd, to combat the negative effects of airline cabin conditions on passengers’ taste buds. With a combination of Hong Kong and UK-sourced ingredients, it tastes great both in the air and on the ground. The inclusion of “Dragon Eye” fruit, known for its aromatic properties, adds to the round, rich, textural properties that make the beer distinctive. Flavour is enhanced further with honey from HK's New Territories, giving the beer nice floral notes, while Fuggle hops, a revered mainstay of traditional British craft ales, lends it a pleasingly earthy and full-bodied flavour.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:
Great with Japanese fare like sushi and karaage as well as Cantonese dim sum favorites. The fruitiness will even help it stand up to a bit of heat from wasabi or a touch of chili.

    SEVENS

    Seasonal (November - April)

    TASTING NOTES:

Rich toasted and dark malts define this style while an addition of 5% rolled oats to the grain bill creates a silky-smooth mouth-feel and subtle layer of texture to complement the roasted malt flavors.

    SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS:
Famously a fine way to wash down oysters but also great with roasted meats, chocolates and well-aged cheeses.

    AWARDS:
    • Best Stout, 2016 Hong Kong Beer Championship (HKSAR)
    • Bronze, 2016 Australian International Beer Awards (Australia) - Other Stout
    • Bronze, 2016 Asian Beer Medals (Singapore) - Stout

  •  WHO WE ARE

AN ASIAN MICROBREWERY PIONEER Hong Kong Beer Co. was launched as Asia’s first craft brewery to sell beer exclusively in bottles and kegs. Established in 1995 as South China Brewing Company, the current name was adopted in 2003. HKBC was acquired in 2013 by Devin Otto Kimble and Daniel Flores, the two founders of Singapore’s multiple award-winning Brewerkz Restaurant & Microbrewery, which they opened in 1997.

BORN IN AMERICA Simon Pesch, a craft beer industry veteran with almost 20 years of professional brewing experience in the United States, leads the HKBC operations. The former brewmaster at Pyramid Breweries in Berkeley, California, he was responsible for production of up to 167,000 hectoliters (140,000 barrels) annually. Simon’s beers are internationally acclaimed and have been awarded 1 bronze, 2 silver, and 6 gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival. He has also received the Brewers Association’s highly prestigious American mid-sized brewery Brewer of the Year award.

BREWED IN HONG KONG HKBC sources the finest malts, hops, and yeasts from around the world but water is, of course, a local ingredient, and it is carbon-filtered and mineral-adjusted according to the style being made. The brewery has a capacity of approximately 6,000 hectoliters (5,000 barrels) per year and the American-made, 20-barrel JVNW system is now located on the ground floor of the Wah Shing Centre in the Hong Kong Island neighborhood of Chai Wan.

LOOKING GOOD To match the class of what’s inside the bottles and kegs, all labels and graphics have been totally revamped by Cultivator Advertising & Design, a Denver, Colorado-based world-leader in craft brewery graphic design.

READY TO BE ENJOYED HKBC will feature state-of-the-art, award-winning bottle-filling technology from Germany, which is specifically designed to maximize the freshness and quality of our bottled beers, dramatically reduce carbon dioxide usage, and give local and export consumers alike a full range of distinctive labels that we hope will make Hong Kong proud of its hometown brewery.
